ICT in Agriculture, farmers and productivity, informed farmers, better agricultural practices


Agriculture is referred to as the backbone of Nepal’s economy; it is the single largest sector contributing to more than one third of Gross Domestic Product and employing two-thirds of the country's labour force is central to the livelihood of Nepal. The agriculture sector is pivotal to increase income, alleviate poverty and uplift the living standard of the Nepalese people.
Growth in the field of agriculture has being made possible through the use of the latest technology for communication which is known as information communication technology.ICT has the biggest factor for change in extension service plays important roles in enhancing agriculture by helping in producing knowledgeable and well informed farming communities, individually and collectively through diagnosing problems, interpreting data and applying their meanings. Again, by providing knowledgeable and new technology, up-to-date information and services in the field of agriculture for increased production, capacity building and empowerment and information for improvement, management of new developed agricultural practices. There are also indirect benefits not only in greater awareness and knowledge in agriculture technology and information but also in terms of farmers’ attitudes towards trying new technology and new ways of life in the future.
The main aim of this project is to provide critical access to the knowledge, information and technology that farmers require to improve the productivity and thus improve the quality of their lives and livelihoods.It is hence crucial to provide farmers with the knowledge and information in a quality and timely way.This includes transferring knowledge to farmers, advising and educating farmers in their decision making, enabling farmers to clarify their own goals and possibilities, and stimulating desirable agricultural developments.
