The diversity and versatility of display devices today imposes new demands on digital media. Designers must create different alternatives for web-content and design different layouts for different devices. Up to date, images, although being one of the key elements in digital media, typically remain rigid in size and cannot deform to fit different layouts automatically. Seam Carving for Content Aware Image Resizing for is one of the approach to solve the above problem. As the name suggests it provides seam carving functionality for content aware image resizing on the web being compatible with various web browsers and devices. It is focused as a research based project targeting the overall optimization of the seam carving process rather than just implementing the already formulated algorithms.
Standard image scaling is not sufficient since it is oblivious to the image content and typically can be applied only uniformly. Cropping is limited since it can only remove pixels from the image periphery. More effective resizing can only be achieved by considering the image content and not only geometric constraints. Seam Carving for Content Aware Image Resizing is regarded as one of the best approaches to solve the image resizing issue by targeting the content of image and preserving the content value of the image.
