Abstract

The project, “E-waste Estimator: Status of e-Waste in Nepal and its Mitigating Measures through Information Communication Technology” is developed envisioning the condition of e-waste in Nepal and what controlling measures can be implemented to mitigate its uncontrolled growth in Nepal through Information Communication Technology. Being an Information Technology (IT) student we have taken an initiative to research about e-waste in Nepal, develop an application to assist people to self-evaluate their e-waste generation and disseminate about its effects.

This project comprises the information on the condition of e-waste in Nepal. The result from the research (survey, interview and meeting) conducted will be a lucrative source for any people interested in the field of e-waste. The application developed is intended for all the users to evaluate the e-waste generated by their devices. It also provides with the analysis tools to help them analyze various parameter on e-waste like composition analysis, trends, devices versus time, e-waste versus time and what-if analyses. With this application several stakeholders can communicate via mail for buying, selling or donating e-wastes. As information implies in ICT, we finally include a report generation in this application to provide the user with informative report based on their products used and e-waste generated.

Our project is designed aiming the consumers, distributors, organizations, offices, analysts and the general people which provides them with the ICT tool-“the system developed” to evaluate and analyze their e-waste generation and aware them in parallel. It is also envisaged to be a useful research project in the field of e-waste management in Nepal.
