Abstract

Education is one of the prerequisites of development. It is the basis for the development in the modern world. Education determines the mindset of the people and hence acts as a driving force for development. The standard of education thus correlates to the prospects of development in other fields. Thus, improving the standards of education is one the main concerns in the present world.

Information and communications technologies (ICT) are a diverse set of technological tools and resources used to communicate, and to create, disseminate, store, and manage information. Information and its communication are at the very heart of the educational process, consequently ICT-use in education has a long history. With the advancement in ICT, education can’t be spared of the effects of ICT. ICT has played an educational role in formal and non-formal settings, in programs provided by governmental agencies, public and private educational institutions, for-profit corporations and non-profit groups, and secular and religious communities.

This study was carried out with the motive of promoting the rural education in Nepal with the help of ICT. Compared to the rest of the world, Nepal still faces the lack of proper tools and technologies that could help the education sector prosper. This problem is more prevalent in the rural areas of Nepal where the digital divide is highly noticeable. The issues of network connectivity were studied as it is one of the prerequisites of a virtual learning system. The virtual learning system is based on internet connectivity. The project includes two parts, one part is the design of a network model that suits the state of Nepalese schools and the other part is the implementation of a knowledge sharing system.

ICT’s implementation in the education sector is a trending topic nowadays and hence, is being researched and implemented throughout the world, including Nepal. This project has a different approach towards the teaching-learning experience. The system is more adopted for implementation in the schools of Nepal where the availability of network connections is very less.
