Abstract

As the consequence of alarming global population growth, climate change and urbanization, the demand for fresh water is rising day-by-day and the fresh water sources are being stressed to its limits. It has become urgent to integrate new technologies in the water infrastructure to ensure the efficient distribution and management. In response to this, research and development activities on new solutions supporting a more rational management are currently performed in many technological areas.
The objective is to design and develop an innovative ICT solution to integrate real-time knowledge on water distribution and management. The aim is to develop a flexible architecture allowing different channels to work in an integrated manner which focus on using a service-oriented approach. Key areas of focus are improving water supply distribution by making it more informative, as well as awareness for optimization of urban water resources. In this project we will present the initial architecture of the system and rationale for its selection. There will be relevant use of ICT and social computing in raising awareness of stakeholders on the significance of the water sector in sustainability. The central idea of the project is that ICT can help water managers drive aggressive information campaigns and integrate the water sector with other city services, in order to deliver sustainable services and quality in urban life.
