Abstract

This project entitled “Environmental Information System For The Assessment Of
The E-waste management” raises the issues and management strategies regarding e-
waste. Electronic waste is being generated around the globe at a high rate. High
Market penetration of electrical and electronic equipment and the fast development of
more innovative designs by producers and manufacturers on a regular basis make the
current electrical and electronic equipment obsolete faster than before, which
contributes towards the generation of more e-waste. To combat the issue, e-waste
management programs are being developed, implemented and evaluated around the
world. EIS is one of the jurisdictions that have taken initiatives in e-waste
management program to address the rising quantity of e-waste. This project assists
the e-waste management by using Environmental information system as an
application framework.
E-waste is a threat to the environment and to the health of the people. The
government, manufacturers and consumers have their respective role with the e-waste
problem. The government must provide a strict and clear legislation regarding the
disposal of e-wastes. The manufacturers must apply the design for the environment,
use of less hazardous materials and provide recycling facilities. Also, the consumers
must be properly informed and be responsible for the disposal of this futuristic waste.
Moreover, this project will help in decision making as they will get up-to-date
reports. While implementing the system, Oracle is used for the database and JSP
along with HTML and CSS as the front end development tools. It is believed that, the
system will make Electronic waste management activities easier and will also help for
policy maker to formulate effective plans.
