Android Based Attendance System (An initiative to Paperless Attendance)- Final Year Project Report (CSC-404) 

Abstract

Android Based Attendance System is semi-automated attendance management system.
Here users are supposed to hold a Smartphone to use this application. The user may be
a teacher taking the attendance, student attending the college, department managing the
students or the admin managing this system. An attendance management server
contains all the necessary data and required files for the system to operate.
Being mobile application, this is portable and handy to all the users. Through the
connection of internet any user can view the status from remote place in his/her
smartphone. Moreover all the data are collected at a central database and the processing
is eased with this system. The management overhead like filing, indexing, storing and
retrieving of attendance records in registers are removed with this system. This system
bring an entirely new and efficient phenomena of record processing and attendance
results are all available in pocket in a fraction of second.
This system explores the opportunity that smartphones are available with most of the
people and internet is available in most of the places. Due to this, deployment of this
new system does not take too much cost, effort and time. Implementing this system in
college has more opportunities as the users are well known to the android environment
and the college environment are mostly pre-setup with the LAN.
This semi-automated approach of moving from paper to paperless or less-paper
environment reduces the cost, time and effort in attendance management system while
increases the efficiency in information processing, indexing, storing and making
information available round the clock.
